Basic Summer Skincare
The absolute essential for for radiant Summer make-up is a simple skincare routine that will maximize the natural glow of your fresh Summer skin.
Bradley Cutress, VP Operations and Co-Founder of Upurea weighs in on Summer skin care:
- Removing dead skin cells twice weekly with a gentle scrub to smooth the skin's surface will leave your face feeling fresh and invigorated and make way for a healthy natural glow.
- Cleanse twice daily with an appropriate cleanser for your skin type – creamy for dry skin, and non-creamy for oily skin.
- Don't overlook the sensitive under eye area when moisturizing. It one of the first areas to show signs of aging, especially with the additional exposure to sun during Summer.
- Daily moisturizer containing SPF should be applied every 2 hours to keep the skin moist and protected from the sun's harmful rays. Try Chamomile for oily skin or Green Tea for dry skin.
Foundation
The key to successful foundation during the Summer is to keep it light. Light base or tinted moisturizers are perfect, and any foundation with an SPF is an added bonus! Loose powders will help manage Summer shine and some varieties contain sun protection factors too.
Eyes
Liners: Colorful kohl's or gel based liners for a casual smoky look around the upper and lower lids towards the outside of the eye.
Shadows: Beautiful summer eyes have a couple of fun options to play with: shimmering gold and bronze metallics, or bright Summer colours. The common theme for both is to accent at the lashline with an eye pencil or gel liner, and blend out with similar colors.
Find the perfect Summer eye for your colouring:
- Dark or tanned skin: blue (think azure or teal) eye pencil smudged around the eye for a sultry smoky look, blended with green/blue eye shimmer on the lid.
- Golden skin: choose peach, orange or tangerine shimmer powder for the lid and below the outside edge of the eye, then coat the lashes in brown mascara (black is too harsh).
- Fair skin: dramatic charcoal or black eye liner with black mascara will punch out bright pinks on the cheeks, and bright pink lips topped with sheer lip gloss.

Eyelashes: Full and long are in. Today's technology uses ingredients such as proteins, botanical fibers and botanical compounds to lift, hold, lengthen and thicken lashes. These formulas, coupled with new wand designs work wonders on lashes, but for extra drama, lash extensions add their magic.
Brows: Full, more natural looking brows are back, but take care not to cross the line between full and unruly! Our gurus recommend lightly filling the brow with a natural black pencil and then brushing it over with a clear mascara to hold it's shape.
Cheeks
Cheerful blush hues of salmon, nectarine, coral, rosy pink or sheer peach brushed onto the apples of the cheeks for a girlish allure, or the two-toned look of bronzer brushed under the cheek bones, and pearl or baby pink shimmer dusted along the top of the cheek for sun-kissed glamour.
Lips
Tone-down the eye and play up the lips! Vivid tangerine, sugar pink, and coral's rule the mouth this season. Use a matching lip liner for a perfect pout. Shine up at all times with layers of clear lip gloss over your lip shade, or play it down with a shiny natural lip smoothed with clear lip. Remember that lips are also affected by sun damage so be sure to look for products that include sun block.
